Hey, I'm Elizabeth McElhatten—and if there's one thing you should know about me, it's that houses have always been more than just houses in my world.
For the past 20 years, my husband Nick and I have been renovating homes together. What started as projects and passion slowly became a way of life. We've walked into houses full of potential, taken on projects that felt exciting (and sometimes overwhelming), and learned—sometimes the hard way—what it really takes to turn a house into a home.
Honestly, I should have known this would be our life from the very beginning. Our first home as a married couple was… a fixer-upper. Like, a real one. The kind where when Nick carried me over the threshold, it definitely wasn't into a perfectly finished, picture-perfect house. It was more like, "Welcome home… watch your step." Looking back, it feels pretty fitting—marriage and houses, both a little messy, both a work in progress, and both completely worth it.
But even before all of that, my love for homes started right out of college, where I spent three years designing kitchens and bathrooms. That experience gave me a foundation in both function and design—understanding how people truly live in their spaces, not just how they look.
Alongside all of this, Nick has been in real estate for just as long. And for 20 years, he's encouraged me to get my license and join him. But life has a funny way of filling up your time before you even realize it. Between owning King Hardware for a decade, raising a family, and building a career in sales over the last seven years, it just never felt like the "right time."
And then life shifted in ways we never expected.
When we were in the middle of closing our store, shortyly after I was also diagnosed with ovarian cancer. It was one of those moments that stops you in your tracks. But through it all, one thing has remained constant—God's hand has always been in every part of our story. Even in the hardest seasons, there has been purpose, growth, and a path forward.
Life will throw you curveballs. That's just part of it. But you keep going. You lean in. And sometimes, those unexpected turns are what lead you exactly where you're meant to be.
Until now.
Over the last few years, Nick has slowly stepped back from real estate as he's focused on his work as a full-time financial advisor. And in a way, that shift created space for me to step in. It's funny how life works like that—what didn't feel like the right time before suddenly feels exactly right.
Because the truth is, real estate has always been a part of my life. Renovating, designing, dreaming, reimagining—I've been living it every day, just without the title. And now, stepping into this new chapter feels less like starting over and more like stepping into something I was always meant to do.
What I bring to the table isn't just a license—it's experience. I know what it feels like to walk into a home and instantly see what it could become. I also know what it feels like to live through a renovation… the mess, the stress, the unexpected surprises. I've made mistakes. I've learned lessons. And now, I get to use all of that to help guide you.
Whether you're dreaming of:
– a fixer-upper full of potential
– a move-in-ready home you can fall in love with instantly
– or building your dream home from the ground up
I'm here for all of it.
This blog is my little corner of the internet where I'll share the real side of real estate and home design—stories from the past 20 years, lessons learned (the easy and the hard ones), behind-the-scenes of renovations, and the things I love most about creating beautiful, functional spaces.
If you've ever walked into a house and wondered, "What could this be?"—you're in the right place.
Welcome. I'm so glad you're here.
